Marilyn Marks recently wrote a book on IP strategy called The Best IP Strategies. She made a digital copy of the book available for free. However, in order to access the whole book, the reader has to download each of the 15 chapters individually. Marilyn also made a printed copy of the entire book available for purchase at a reasonable price in bookstores and online.
Marilyn finds that although a good number of readers opted for the free download of the entire book, an even greater number of readers downloaded the first two chapters of the book for free and then opted to purchase the hard copy. Marilyn has sold substantially more copies of this book than any of her previously published books for which she had not offered free downloads.
