Specialized Forms of IP
Some of the more specialized forms of IP are listed below. Please note that we will not be covering these in any specific detail. However, they may be mentioned for illustrative purposes in subsequent modules.

Domain Names |
They provide legal protection over internet addresses. Domain name protection can offer some of the same advantages that trademark protection offers, given that a significant amount of commerce and brand awareness is done through the internet. Domain names are therefore an important element in a business’s marketing strategy. |

Geographical Indications |
They provide legal protection over the geographic identifiers of certain products emanating from specific regions or jurisdictions. |

Plant Varieties/Plant Breeders’ Rights |
They provide legal protection over new plant varieties. |

Integrated Circuit Topographies |
They provide legal protection over the design elements of an integrated circuit (computer chip). |
